Bertha Alicia Cortes was a teaching artist at Childsplay in 2020 and is excited to be back for this summer session. Bertha has been the improv coach at CYT Phoenix for four years and has directed some of their main stage productions. Recent directing credits include Willy Wonka, The Addams Family (AriZoni Award: Best Director for Youth Musical 2020), and Ella Chanted (CYT Phoenix). She has also worked for other youth theatres around the valley such as VYT and DFT. She received her Bachelor's in Theatre Education from Grand Canyon University in 2015 and is currently teaching theatre at The Academies at South Mountain in Phoenix. Previously she taught grades Pre-K through 6th at Black Mountain Elementary School in Cave Creek. She was recently admitted to the University of Northern Colorado where she will be pursuing a Masters in Theatre Education.
