Discover Childsplay Academy Theatre classes for young people ages 3 through 18 Spend your summer playing with us in our brand-new home, the Sybil B. Harrington Campus for Imagination and Wonder at Mitchell Park, 900 S. Mitchell Dr., Tempe. Our new campus includes four beautiful, state-of-the-art classrooms, rehearsal rooms and a black box theater! Classes are held Monday through Friday, and include a sharing time for family and friends on the last day of class. Production classes may have additional performances on Saturdays, as noted in class descriptions. Waiting list: For classes that are (Full), call 480-921-5700 to be placed on waiting list.
Primary Classes Can You See What I See? Ages: 5-6 Dates: July 7-18 Time: 2:30-4:30 p.m. Cost: $210 Create fun improvisations using the puzzles from the Can You See What I See series of books. (NEW!) In One Basket Ages: 6-8 Dates: July 7-25 Time: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Cost: $400 By popular demand, we have created a production class for our primary students! Students will explore a collection of folk and fairytales and learn basic acting skills and vocabulary, while creating a play to share with family and friends on the last day of class. Intermediate/Middle School Classes Musical Theatre I (Full) call 480-921-5700 to be placed on waiting list Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr Director: Dwayne Hartford Ages: 8-13 Dates: July 7-25 Time: 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Cost: $595 Sing, dance and act your way to stardom! Vocal exercises, choreographed movement, and characterization activities will assist in each student’s skill development. The final week of class will be at the Tempe Performing Arts Center, 132 E. Sixth Street, where performances will take place on the last day of class. Play Production I (Full) call 480-921-5700 to be placed on waiting list The Phantom Tollbooth Director: Katie McFadzen Ages: 8-13 Dates: July 14-August 1 Time: 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Cost: $595 Focus on basic acting skills, character development, and movement techniques, leading to the production of a play. The play will be presented on Friday of the final week of class for an invited audience of family and friends. Middle School/High School Classes Musical Theatre III Sweeney Todd* Director: Jon Gentry Ages: 14-18 Dates: July 7-August 2 Time: 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Cost: $595 This class is for students who have prior musical theatre experience and are interested in taking a class to develop advanced performance skills. The final week of class will be at the Tempe Performing Arts Center, 132 E. Sixth Street, where performances will take place on Friday and Saturday. *This musical has mature themes, language and challenging subject matter. Shakespeare Collision! Romeo and Juliet Instructors: Dwayne Hartford and Debra K. Stevens Ages: 12-18 Dates: July 28-August 1 Time: 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Cost: $150 Experience Shakespeare like you never have before! Using music, poetry, movement, and visual art we will analyze and dissect one of Shakespeare’s works and then put it all back together again in our own new interpretation. This class will allow participants an up close and personal interaction with a great work of literature while simultaneously developing a wide range of acting skills. All Ages Classes Musical Theatre Marathon A musical a week! This class will focus on singing, dancing and acting
while rehearsing a condensed version of these popular musicals to
present for family and friends on the last day of class.
